First of all…I’m Becky
I was born and raised in North Carolina. I always loved making up stories. I think I technically wrote my first “stories” in first grade. Of course, those short-short-short stories were only like a paragraph long. Anyway, by the time I was in high school I had written three short novels and a short story series based not-so-subtly on me and my friends. I guess it was in high school when I got the idea that people might like to read what I was writing after I found out that a friend had given a copy of a story I had written to one of her other friends at a different high school. And that friend had passed it on to another…and so on.
After high school, I attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, majoring in Deaf Education and English, but never pursued a career in those fields. In fact, I never graduated. Instead, I fell in love and got married, and life happened. I had a baby and then another one. My second child was born acutely ill and died at the age of 25 days old.
Afterwards, my husband, Scott, and I became foster parents, and I dedicated my life to being a mommy. I felt like that was my calling. We had our biological daughter, Amanda, and we fostered several more children. We always wanted lots of kids, but we mostly wanted at least one more that we could call our own. We eventually adopted one of our foster kids, Timothy, who was a newborn when he came to us.
When Timothy was old enough to start kindergarten, we gave up fostering and I returned to school. I now have my Masters of Science in Nursing. I know, it makes no sense from where I started, but here I am.
I’m working on The Quintessential Series, a five-part series, based on the members of a fictional musical group. I began writing this series in 2002 after Brianna died. I have worked on it, and put it away, worked on it, and put it away for the past 15 years. I have got to finish this, or I don’t think I will ever be able to write anything else.
